1982 STAGE ONE V8! RARE FIVE DOOR STATION WAGON! This is our latest STAGE ONE V8, and it may be the best yet. "The Stage One" was the first stage of the development of the Defender, which was borne out of the necessity of creating a vehicle that would compete against Toyota products that were making inroads at the time into Land Rover's foreign markets. The added features, which differed from the previous Series III, were the center differential for full-time 4WD, the larger V8 engine previously seen in the Range Rover, and a redesigned front "breakfast" (radiator) panel and bonnet (front hood). The addition of a redesigned dashboard and electrical system, and coil springs are the main differences between the Stage One and the Defender 110 as we know it today.
This particular example has a strong, freshly tuned 3.5 liter V8 engine that never fails to start. LT95 four speed gearbox (pictured) is fitted with the rare PTO option on the back, I also have the rear PTO that will attach to the rear crossmember, (but not the middle drive shaft). Excellent chassis, coated with "Waxoyl", the best rust inhibitor out there. Excellent bulkhead, straight panels, original interior with a few rips and tears, on par with an older, unrestored Rover. The original Stage One grille was replaced with the current Defender front grille, the untutored will assume you paid about four times as much as you did! Fitted with basket roof rack, spots on front bumper, tow hitch, and one forward facing rear seat in the very back, instead of the side facing seat. Getting behind the wheel of a Stage One is uncanny, if you are used to the relatively weak 2 1/4 engine usually fitted to the Series trucks- you can really feel the power, and realize that this is a Rover well suited to everyday driving, something that can keep up with modern highway speeds, with style. Own a piece of Land Rover history!
