Oh the places you'll go!

No, this is not a Gulf War battlefield shot. It's the Pine Barrens, with a very unidentifiable vehicle rusting in peace. The Pine Barrens is an area in Southern New Jersey recently highlighted in an episode of the Sopranos. It's many miles of pine scrub, sandy hills, brackish water and a few odd vehicles stranded over the last 50 years...

The sandy conditions in the Barrens provides a fairly firm and somewhat predictible underwater surface.

However, conditions can change dramatically: The mud hole won this round. There was a hidden trench in the middle, which has claimed it's share of victims. Rescue was provided by a well equiped Defender 90, driven by Bryan Stone.

These photos of a 109" 24V soft top were taken last fall in the New Jersey Pine Barrens, in a place called "Hidden Lakes". The 109s are perfectly suited for offroading, and the waterproofed 24V engine electrics ensure that you'll churn through just about anything. Add a raised air intake, and the possibilities are endless: but don't forget your scuba gear.

Here's an example of the correct way to clean out the inside of a Range Rover. U-Boat Lieutenant Gaborsch Antee-Eyrekraft piloted this one through some deep stuff. He has devised a way to hatch fishes in the offseason in this Rangie.

I think next time, I may want to think about cleaning the spilled packet of sea monkeys BEFORE I go offroading.

During a recent trip, we learned where NOT to attach a towstrap.

Posing in a Disco

Here are a couple of Modern D90s going through the same stuff the Series trucks go through. These guys are well equipped for just about anything.

Here's a Camel Trophy Freelander that found out the limits of it's suspension.

The UN may need to skip the negotitations and learn how to drive!
