If you are not that fond of the rugged good looks of a the military camouflage paint, or you're afraid the neighbors might call the authorities thinking the Michigan Militia has moved in next door, we can certainly treat any of the Rovers here at Skytop to a fresh coat of paint, in any color you choose!

Come down and pick one out- in addition to ensuring that everything mechanical and structural on the Rover is "spot-on", we will sit down with you, and go over the color schemes, from the traditional, classic colors such as Limestone (the off-white Safari color you see on many Rovers) to the original military color "Bronze Green", to more contemporary and flashy tones like the GUARDS RED 109" seen here (yes- it is a Porsche color, but it looks great on a Rover!) and the Land Rover AA YELLOW(AA stands for "Automobile Association" which is the Brit equivalent of AAA- their trucks were all painted that shade of yellow, and yes, they did use Rovers, as far back as the 1940's!).

We will then completely remove all of the paint, right down to the bare metal. That is why we call it a Bare Metal Respray- sometimes we have to remove almost 30 coats of old, cracked military paint, to get to the bare panels. We then do some light body filling with a flexible filler. If the panels are too dented or rippled, we just replace them, rather then try to repair it. This is most often the case with the outermost panels on the two front wings (fenders!). When those panels are replaced, it makes a huge difference in the overall aesthetic of the Rover.

The actual respray includes two to three coats of an aircraft-quality etching primer, which is the key to a good paint job- this type of primer actually eats into the aluminum/zinc alloy of the Land Rover, and creates a solid base for the top, or color coat. We then spray the final coats using an ultra high quality urethane paint from PPG or Dupont. Urethanes are among the best for several reasons, the most important being its incredible durability and elasticity, so it is much less likely to chip or flake. (urethane paints were first developed for use on aircraft, so you know it has to be durable!)

And of course, (we can't emphasize this point enough) you can choose any color you like! There are some good ones out there too- I have seen mauve colored Rovers, which weren't nearly as horrific looking as they sound. Of course, the traditional colors are the crowd favourite.

We can usually get a Rover delivered within 4-6 weeks, and can add any type of part or accessory that you like, such as driving and offroading lights, winches, diamond plate wing protectors, roll bars, and just about anything else that you think would look good on a Series Rover.

Please call us to discuss painting a Land Rover- we are always happy to answer any questions you may have, and can put you in touch with other customers who are driving our Rovers around right now.

Some of our Resprays

This is another AA Yellow 109" that we just prepared for a customer who wants something flashy in the driveway of his new summer home in Vermont- fitted with a rebuilt engine, Superwinch X-9 24 volt winch, brush bar, Hella Black Magic lights (4 of em'!) side steps, four rear bench seats with seatbelts, Jerry can on the safari rear door, and a full length galvanized roofrack. He also got a full canvas and hoop set for warmer weather. With this in mind, we fitted quick disconnects for the rack lights, and the rear IPF utility lamp. You will not miss this Rover if you are anywhere near Fayston, VT!

This is a Series III 109 softtop that was painted in a Porsche guards red. Wheels were also sandblasted and resprayed

This is the 1975 Series III Lightweight Rover just before going into the paint shop, looking like a big can of Coors Light.

READY FOR THE PAINTGUN!
FRESH FROM THE FACTORY LOOK!

Here is what the lightweight bed looked like before and after the respray.
